Fishery Science, Ecology, and Management
Houde’s research emphasizes factors that contribute to variability in abundances of marine and estuarine fishes. Recruitment success in fishes typically varies by a factor or 10 or more. Discovering causes of this variability and quantifying effects of environmental factors on reproductive success are areas of emphasis.
Houde also has a strong interest in resource management and the application of science to resource management needs. As such, he serves on numerous advisory committees that provide advice to fishery management agencies.
Graduate education is an essential element of Houde’s academic program at the Chesapeake Biological Lab. Teaching graduate-level courses and mentoring graduate students in fisheries science and management are important activities. |
